My Project
My kindergarten students love science and using their creativity. I love to hear the excitement in their voice when I tell them we are going to do a science experiment, or when they run up to me asking me to take a picture of a zoo that they built out of blocks and animals. I love listening to them explain how they built the bridge that helped the gingerbread man cross the river. I often stand in awe at the creativity and higher order thinking that goes into every science activity in the classroom. These experiences have opened my eyes to the need and importance for quality science opportunities In the classroom. I am creating opportunities where students can engage in a variety of science centers. They will be divided into groups to explore these open-ended science materials. The centers will have a theme, and all the materials needed for exploration about that theme will be included in the center bin. I will create these bins according to the interests of my students.
Children need more open-ended creative opportunities to explore science and to use their higher order thinking skills to think outside the box.
I believe that providing these opportunities for students to work together using problem solving skills and higher order thinking will create excitement for learning that is contagious!
