This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Alistair Cooke famously said, "Curiosity is free-wheeling intelligence." There is no higher intelligence I can instill in my students than curiosity. But curiosity is not easily taught, it must be brought about organically and independently for each student. Here is your opportunity to help me!
My students are a diverse group of second-language learners from SW Denver, and most of them come from broken and/or economically challenged homes.
Our school strives to have each student excel in science and math, the most challenged subjects for this demographic. The students love our focus on science in school, and are always hungry for more science time, science tools, science supplies, science ideas.
My Project
While I teach science almost every day in class, my students need a place in our classroom where they can conduct their own experiments and investigations, where they can foster and explore their own curiosities.
I am requesting "Can Do" experiment kits that give students ideas and tools to investigate a wide range of concepts from colors and light, to magnetism, to forces and physics. I am also requesting a science tool kit that has sets of 12 of key science tools like magnifying glasses, magnets, observation boxes, and thermometers that will arm my class with the supplies they need to be independent in investigating things that they are curious about. And finally, I am requesting a class set of science journals, so that students can learn to think about and record their experiments like true scientists.
This grant offers my students a fabulous opportunity to have real scientific tools and resources in our classroom for them to use in any creative way they see fit.
This is the heart of science and good education as well- being able to have students create, investigate, and eventually answer their own questions about the world around them. Please consider donating to help foster my students' curiosity and arm them with the tools to investigate the world's mysteries. Thank you.
