My Students
My class this year is off to an amazing start! My students are excited about learning and LOVE to explore and discuss the world around them. They have an expressed interest in science and cheer when I tell them we will be doing a hands-on activity or experiment!
My inclusion classroom consists of 25 little people with unique personalities who contribute to our classroom with their individual strengths and support each other in their weaknesses!
They come from a variety of backgrounds and have a variety of skill levels. My hope is that each day they will find a common enthusiasm for learning and desire to work hard at being respectful, responsible and on-task. This "on target" behavior breeds success and it's amazing what they can do when they realize that they can now do things just like the big kids!
My Project
With the rigorous curriculum for reading and math, some of our most fun science experiments get decreased time and attention and these are often the activities that the students love the most. The materials I am asking for would provide my students the opportunity to further explore the science concepts we touch on at school. They would also equip the parents with resources to engage with their child in meaningful and educational activities at home.
The materials from this project will be divided into four standards based science kits, including some literature to support the concepts being explored.
These kits will be rotated home with students to use for a week with their families. The families will have specific experiments to perform and the child will complete an investigation sheet as he/she finishes. When students return the kits, they will have an opportunity to share what they learned with their second grade buddies here at school.
