My Project

In Science Lab, students from Kindergarten through 5th grade are transformed into scientists with science inquiry and teaching with intentionality. This project will help bring students a unique way to demonstrate their knowledge. By adding the NFC escape room element to our learning, students become highly engaged problem-solvers. These types of experiences could complement any of our Science lessons throughout the year!

Science Lab is a place where enrichment and investigation happen.

Using STEM / STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) exposes students to creative ways to use art alongside the scientific process in a unique style of problem-solving! Instead of practicing on a boring worksheet, students become investigators, solving mysteries and finding clues. NFC readers and tags would be used to check for understanding and get the next clue to solve the problem. NFC tags would be programmed with the clues, and attached to 3D-printed items, and students would have to figure out which one leads to the next clue and scan it on the reader to get that clue. Students would demonstrate their knowledge in a very tactile and interactive way!

My 550+ students are inquisitive, resourceful, and kind members of a small-town learning community. Many come from low-income households and it is not always easy for students to donate supplies to their homeroom teacher. As Science Lab is a 'Specials' class with no homeroom, it is even more difficult to seek donations that are enough to cover the needs of the entire school.
