This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every student has a plant on their desk that they care for. They get to watch their plants grow through out the year, just like I get to watch my students grow.
My students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders, all eager to learn and also lazy (they are in middle school you know).
I am their science teacher. They come from all over the city, all with different backgrounds and many of them speak more than one language. They ask a lot of questions, interrupt each other often, try hard to complete their assignments, they give up a lot and get frustrated. They are genuinely excited when they finally get something and are happy to share their success with others. All the students in my class have learning disabilities, they work hard to not let their disabilities get in the way of their success. Each of them is fantastic!
My Project
Having ipads in the classroom will allow for research for science units. Our textbooks have the basic information, but honestly the format is boring and for students with special needs not particularly motivating or easy to follow. Using ipads to look at websites related to the science standards or to watch videos and tutorials will be much more effective for their particular style of learning.
Funding this project will bring much needed technology into a classroom that has very little.
Further, it will support a group of students with unique and varied learning styles. The ipads will enhance lessons and make learning more motivating.
More than half of students from low‑income households
