My students need science centers because my school does not have science kits, and it makes it very difficult to do science labs when kids cannot practice at centers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are vibrant and eager to learn. They love creating and innovating. My students come from low socioeconomic background and they do struggle in keeping up with content; however, they work extremely hard to meet my expectations and be on grade level. I have found that they learn best in collaborative groups and they help one another when they have doubts about the material, while at the same time they much each other to succeed in the classroom. I have 14 boys and 8 girls in my classroom.
My students simply want to learn and be pushed to learn and that is something I take to heart when I am teaching them and planning new content!
My Project
The resources asked for in this project will help my students practice fun Scientific research while doing centers, which helps prepare them for labs. Moreover, they will acquire the necessary skills needed to be prepared for future careers in STEM fields. Although it may not seem like a lot, these centers are a starting point for my students to be able to engage with Scientific tools on their own. Currently, my school does not have Science kits for the 4th grade, so my students would benefit greatly from a Science centers because they have a State Science exam in 5th grade!
These Science centers materials will help my students gain the necessary practice and skills that working professionals in the Scientific community must have in order to innovate, these include inquiry and investigation, critical thinking, and collaboration.
