Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is known for assisting students with multiple nationalities, backgrounds, and multi-languages. My new students are learning to reacquaint themselves in learning face-to-face that will allow them an opportunity to be challenged and get back to some sort of normalcy. Every student, regardless of their background, should be welcomed and should know that school is a safe haven where they can learn to develop coping skills and an insight into college preparedness. By greeting each student with a warm smile and kind gesture, students know that they are loved and cared for and that we are here to help them thrive in this difficult environment.

I am currently covering for a 5th grade class at a Title I STEAM school in Las Vegas.

All students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, and some may take home a weekend sack of food. In addition, students are dealing with emotional challenges and are also lacking the skills to write on paper and pencil.

Regardless of some distance learning challenges; every student should be helped in dealing with COVID-19. Students are coping with the aftermath of distance learning and some are having financial hardships from loss of jobs or family.

My Project

My fifth graders are amazing learners and can't wait to learn more from using informational texts. I have many students who enjoy drawing, doodling, coding, writing, and learning coding. Therefore, they need topics that will build their background knowledge gaps and at the same time be inspired.

Learning about future STEAM careers can assist the imagination of a million opportunities that are yet to be created and discovered.

Please help me give them the books that will inspire hope, dreams, and amazing opportunities. We need more engineers, scientists, doctors, inventors, and mathmeticians. We know that it does take a lot of dedication and encouragement to build a passion and appreciation for learning.
