My Students

My classroom is a hands-on classroom. I like to engage my students by teaching them material in various ways. At the end of the school year, I would like my students to leave my classroom with a better understanding of and excitement for science and STEM-related fields.

I teach 7th grade science and a STEM science course.

For most of my students, this is the first or second time experiencing a science class. Therefore, they are eager and excited to learn about science. I teach a diverse group of students coming from various backgrounds and home environments. Approximately 60% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

Students are in need of basic supplies and ways to reduce anxiety. The supplies I have selected for this project were chosen with this intention.

Over the past two years, I have seen an increase in anxiety in the classroom.

By providing simple fidget toys and placing desk toys around my classroom I have seen a decrease in anxiety and an increase in student engagement. Hands-on projects are also a fantastic way to get students curious about what they are learning about. I teach a STEM course and the materials I selected can be used in many different activities throughout the school year.
