Science At Your Fingertips

Help me give my students some hands on activities to let them experience the world around them. The Stem kits would allow this to happen.

My Students

I teach in a low economic area. I am the only First Grade Teacher. Kindergarten and First grade have 36 students total. I start my year by telling my parents it takes the student, teacher and the parent to set a firm foundation in a child's academics. I am in constant contact with my parents. This allows us to start our year all on the same page.

My students love to share their adventures.

They are eager to engage in any challenge handed to them. I love to watch my students working on an activity, and see their face light up when they succeed on a task, or figure out a problem. They are also excited to come and tell me exactly what they have accomplished.

We always have teachable moments in any classroom .

My students are curious and inquisitive. Their favorite saying is "can we google and find out." We were working on artist in our Reading curriculum. They wanted to know how old Picasso would be, and how he died.

My Project

Students learn by doing. The science kits and engineering building will allow by students hands on challenges. They will be able to connect what their are engaged in to their everyday life I will use these in small group settings. This will allow me to walk and discuss with my students their activity and goals. We will also discuss how to further their activity in the classroom or at home. I will encourage students to share with their parents what they have learned. These kits cover the standards First graders need to learn in science.
