Science + Art = Amazing Visual Excitement!

Help me give my students permanent markers to create a new style of tie-dye.

My Project

Connecting science to art is going to get my elementary school students so excited to experiment and learn. While students are familiar with the idea of tie-dye, we're going to experiment with creating a piece of tie-dye art by mixing permanent markers and isopropyl alcohol.

Students will not only learn a new technique to create a piece of art, but they will also learn about solubility.

We will experiment with standard water based markers and permanent markers to see what happens when you add water to these and when you add isopropyl alcohol.

Students will have the opportunity to start with a mixed media piece of art on paper, and then create a permanent marker tie-dye project on a piece of cloth. I love exposing students to art materials and techniques that they have not been made aware of before.
