SCIENCE AND LITERACY WORKING TOGETHER

My students need the theme books such as "Five Senses", "Growing Things", "Weather", and the big book "Caterpillar to Butterfly" to use during science.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Moore's classroom raised $341

My Students

Do you remember what is was like the first time you read a book and couldn't put it down? My children would love to read about how caterpillars become butterflies, read about the five senses or read about the weather. They would be so excited to find how things grow.

I teach in a public school and funds are limited.

I teach half day kindergarten and I teach about 50 children per week. Some of the children do not have very many books at home. Literacy is a big part of our day at school. We can implement some of the literacy through science. With the big book Caterpillars to Butterfly we can learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, or the could explore and learn about their five senses by reading the theme books on senses. The children would also love to learn about weather and how things grow by exploring and read science books. My students would be very excited to read the books that would teach them science concepts.

My Project

My students will be able to increase their knowledge of science by reading the books requested about butterflies, weather, our senses and how things grow. Literacy can be implemented through all subjects, and that includes science. These books will help us explore science. We can extend our learning with science experiments after reading the science books requested. These books will open my students eyes to new and exciting things in the world. They will learn how to explore and inquire about things in their world. They will also improve their reading, writing and math skills. We will be able to explore new and different aspects of our world with these additions to our library. This will prepare them for their future. Science is an important part of life and education. I have a passion for science and I see it in my students' eyes.

Getting these books about how things grow, our five senses, butterflies, caterpillars, seasons, earth, environment and weather will make a difference in our classroom.

Seeing pictures and reading about these things will increase our knowledge of science, math, reading and writing. My students will be so excited to get these books. They love to explore and inquire about new things. Science is an important part of learning and the children love to learn new and different things.
