Science and Finance in the Kitchen: Igniting Curiosity Through Cooking

Help me give my students cooking equipment to learn how to cook and manage a grocery budget!

My Project

Our special motivation program classroom is dedicated to serving at-risk students who face unique challenges in their educational journey. I believe that combining the elements of science, cooking, and financial literacy can be a powerful tool to inspire and empower these students. With your support, we aim to create a dynamic learning environment where our students can discover their potential and build a foundation for success and self-sufficiency.

The materials I'm requesting include top of the line HexClad 12 Inch Hybrid Nonstick Frying Pan, and HexClad 8 Quart Hybrid Nonstick Stockpot which I have chosen specifically to give my students an opportunity to cook with some of the best equipment available, along with a Nuwave Gold Precision Induction Cooktop that is required to cook in the classroom since open flames aren't allowed.

With the requested materials, I hope to achieve the following goals:

1. Engage students in hands-on, inquiry based learning that integrates science, cooking and financial literacy.

2. Foster an understanding of scientific principles such as heat transfer, chemical reactions, and states of matter.

3. Develop essential life skills related to meal preparation, nutrition, kitchen safety, and financial management.

4. Encourage teamwork and collaboration as students work together to prepare meals and manage their budget.

5. Promote creativity by allowing students to experiment with recipes and ingredients while adhering to a budget.
