Science Alive! Contribute to 7th Grade Life Science Lab

My students need an animal & plant cells slide set and 4 7th grade Life Science Labs kits.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Reich's classroom raised $764

My Students

Our 7th grade students have very few Science lab supplies. The Science kits and sets of prepared slides will greatly enhance their chances of exploring Genetics and Cell Biology. Right now we have nothing similar to what these materials will provide - investigative Science labs!

To be honest, this is the best group of students I have had for a number of years.

They are eager learners, cooperative and polite to one another (yes, polite). Frankly they deserve more than they we are providing them. We are a multicultural school with students from around the world. Incomes are generally low, but families are dedicated to the welfare and education of their children. We are a K-8 school and parents are choosing to send their children to our school. We hope to meet their expectations. With your help, we can.

My Project

I have requested 5 items from Carolina Labs designed to enhance students understanding of Cell Biology and Genetics. 1. The Cycling through Mitosis Kit will provide an introduction to cell division and cell processes. 2. Animal and plant cell slides -- These slides will allow students to distinguish features of animal and plant cells. 3. Fruit Flies - Exploring Mutant Organisms - this kit will allow students to witness genetic concepts - in particular the creation of generations of mutant flies. 4. Introduction to Biotechnology kit will allow students to explore fundamental bio technology processes and issues. 5. DNA extraction kit. Using these lab materials students will extract and examine DNA material from their own cheek cells. This promises to be an engaging lab that will introduce students to DNA concepts.

In these tough times, those who can make contributions have many worthy causes to which to contribute.

I'd like to think that helping the 60 7th graders at our school is as worthy a cause as any that exist. Our students are eager to learn. Having laboratory supplies will drastically increase their exposure to investigative science.
