Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These kids are high energy and ready to learn. Many of them are quick to pick up the new topics and think ahead to the next level. The last 2 years have been hard on them and they need all the support they can get. They need the extra push to keep that enthusiasm and desire to learn. They also come from high-need areas without regular support from their community.
My Project
Our school has a fifty book reading challenge every year to push students into reading more independent books. The libraries in the rooms hav a variety of books, but many of them are the standard fair, as well as many outdate books that are often not touched.
The reason many students do not read independently is because they haven't found anything that actually interests them.
I am looking to expand the libraries to include non-standard series that I hope will pique their interest and help develop a lifelong interest in reading.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
