Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine yourself at 8 years old, bright-eyed and eager to get to school. School is a place where learning occurs and children are valued. Now imagine your learning is impeded by a lack of basic school supplies. My students do not yet know of the things they miss out on due to a lack of funding.
I teach 23 high-energy, loving, and eager learners.
These kids come to school every single day ready to learn and excited to dig into our classroom libraries, explore with math manipulatives, and write or create their next masterpiece.
Our school serves students in Head Start and grades K-8. Since opening our doors in August of 1995, we continually strive to be one of the premier schools in our district. Our students, parents, faculty, and administration are second to none. Our school climate is focused on ensuring that all students achieve success.
In our community, 87% of the students are minority and 37% of the students are English language learners. Nearly 95% of the children attending our school qualify for federally subsidized free or reduced-price food services, a nationally recognized poverty indicator. Our most important goal is to increase student achievement and that happens by providing materials that the students are able to engage with.
My Project
My students need basic school supplies including glue sticks, notebooks, clipboards for carpet work, and whiteboard markers. The supplies requested will be used in the following ways:
Gluesticks will be used in a variety of ways, one of which is to glue our daily math application problems into our math notebooks.
Paper will be used to send flyers home, create color-coded coupon rewards, and for crafts.
Composition books will become my students' Writer's Notebooks.
Magnets will be used to display student work, anchor charts, and posters around the room.
Easel pads will be used to create anchor charts that showcase our skills throughout the year.
3-subject notebooks will become our math notebooks where we creatively problem solve and use our critical thinking skills.
Clipboards will be used to bring their whiteboards, worksheets, or other papers to the carpet and around the room.
Cleaning and health materials will be to keep us neat, tidy, and healthy throughout the year.
Expo markers will be for our whiteboards during math.
Top-loading envelopes will hold our math center materials.
This project will improve my classroom by providing my students with the basic materials they need to be successful.
I want my students to come into the classroom ready to learn, and actually be able to get right down to business instead of "making do" with materials that are used, worn down, or simply non-existent. Your donation to my project will change my students lives for the better. Please consider providing these materials for my little scholars!
