Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the city of Camden. The city of Camden is known as one of the poorest cities in the nation, whose public schools are well below the national and state standards. In order to further embed the college dreams in our youth and bring up the state standard, I believe it starts with books and a well-rounded early childhood experience. It is my mission, in collaboration with our parents and the community, is to strive to provide children an excellent education in a safe and positive learning environment where they are prepared with the critical skills to reach their full potential for a world yet to be imagined.
My Project
For the kids who wake up in a shelter or a car every morning, whose parents can’t buy a week’s supply of uniforms, uniforms are just another thing to get in trouble for.
These uniforms will provide for those who can't afford more than one set of uniform.
As a teacher, I view my students as my kids and tend to provide additional necessities for them such as hats, gloves, jackets, and clothes. As a community, I would love to provide more for the students who really need it. Having extra uniforms will allow my students to keep their legs warm or have a clean shirt for the entire week. Uniforms should help the students focus on their most important task, learning. By eliminating the daily distractions of unregulated school clothing, as well as the peer pressure associated with “label competition,” uniforms set the tone for a proper work attitude in the classroom, reduce behavior problems and improve student performance. A standard of dress allows students’ attention to be directed toward learning and growing in the place it matters most, the classroom. All of this can only happen if the students are in a proper, clean set of uniforms.
