We are a third grade classroom that really enjoys inquiry and project-based learning and we often incorporate the engineering design process into our work. We are very artistic, creative, and have lots of ideas that we love to see come to life!
Our class is made up of 23 third grade students that come from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Some of us speak Spanish in the home and we are all learning Spanish here at school. Our school is a Pre-K - 8th grade Academy with a PBL/STEAM focus. We are in Wake County, about 15 minutes from downtown Raleigh. My students are in need of some flexible seating options to help them do their best work and stay focused all day long.
My Project
You may have heard all of the talk lately about the importance of classrooms that engage students. One of the things that really helps kids STAY engaged is comfortable seating. We are looking to add some seating options to our classroom environment, to help students feel more comfortable and to better engage them throughout the day.
Imagine if you had to sit on a rock hard chair for 7 hours every day?
Students in our class report being uncomfortable in some pretty colorful ways. They say that the chairs "hurt my rump" and that they are tired of "hurting our bums from sitting on these rock hard metal chairs all day". Some even complain of "butt cramps" that make it very hard to focus. Sounds pretty rough, huh?
As one student said, "we are just kids so we can not just wish for $600 so we need your help!" We believe that being able to do their work while they "chill in a cozy seat" will improve their classroom experience and lead to better overall achievement. Comfortable kids can produce some pretty awesome work. We would really appreciate your help to make that happen!
