My Students

No one brings Kleenex to music class, and I've not been very successful in getting students to remember to bring their pencils to class either. We are in desperate need of basic school supplies that students traditionally bring to their homeroom class at the beginning of each school year.

My students are amazing children who deserve all of the opportunities we can provide for them.

Our school is a Title 1 school and the majority of my students are considered to be "at-risk" either because they qualify for free or reduced lunch or because they are learning English as their second language. Many of my students come to school with no school supplies at all. A significant number of my students receive even their school uniforms from the school itself. Despite all of the hardship that comes from the poverty my students face every day, they are eager and enthusiastic learners who love learning and adore learning about music.

My Project

I am requesting enough folders to create a folder for each of my 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. These folders will allow me to keep student work organized and cut down on the time we spend passing out materials. If I get them before school gets out, then over the summer I can pre-load them with the materials we will use in the fall. I am requesting a variety of envelopes to help organize student work for the younger grades. I am requesting 12 boxes of Kleenex pencils, erasers,pencil grips, newsprint, and glue sticks all for daily use.

All of the items on my list are completely consumable materials that I most often have to purchase myself.

I teach the entire school, so these things can get rather expensive. Almost two years ago, I created a similar project for donorschoose.org and the supplies from that project will see us through the end of this year. Now that those items are almost used up, it is time to restock in order to ensure that we have the materials we need this coming fall.
