Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine not being able to complete a school project because your family cannot afford the poster board? Well, that is a reality for some of my students. We are a 85% free lunch school and need your support. Help them gain the project center they need!
My students are from the inner city of New York; the majority living in government housing or living with the assistance of some type of government support.
They have duties and expectations apart from school; some include watching younger siblings, cooking for the family, or cleaning. Their lives allow them little time to grow up and little time for themselves. School is their chance to better their lives, but they need your help! Help them get ahead and make school their "happy place". Education is the key to the future and project based learning is a beneficial way for students to learn. My students struggle with technology and find assignments on PowerPoint and Word challenging, but the always persevere! After they have completed a technology component of the project they LOVE getting their hands dirty and being creative with posters! Having a project center allows them to express themselves and to show off what they have mastered both in content and in technology.
My Project
The supplies requested will help my students create projects which will be displayed around the school. It eliminates the embarrassment of asking for materials when they cannot afford them. A well stocked classroom becomes a place where worries can be left at the door and the focus can be on learning. The poster boards will be to make history boards or to print out our PowerPoints so we can put them onto posters and display work around the school. We need colored paper to make our posters 'POP' and a cutting board allows for nice even lines and sharp looking posters. Markers not only make our project look nicer, but we use skinny markers in daily activities, such as gallery walks, word breakdowns, highlighting, differentiation, and so forth. Having a project center with markers, paper, cutter, and poster board allows us to take the technology we use (i.e PowerPoint) and print it out and then display it in a way to share it with the school. Help us show what we know and be creative!
This project is so important because it allows students to apply knowledge through projects.
It allows them to show what they are learning and it allows them to be creative, expressing what they have learned in their own way. We need the listed supplies for our project work center. Without the supplies we won't be able to have a work center!
