Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in this room are in a self-contained cluster program. They all have significant developmental and behavioral needs that cannot be served in a general education setting. There are 13 students in the room with a range of ability levels. Most of them are visual and tactile learners.

They are a good bunch of kids who try hard to understand the work being given to them.

Despite this, they do have struggles and limitations that they come up against regularly. They put in the effort, but can get frustrated when they can't understand something. They are a diverse group of caring students who deserve the chance to learn and progress.

My Project

We do a lot of work that involves gluing and coloring, as it is helpful to provide my students with multiple means of engagement. We are running low on these supplies, and would appreciate the help to restock our room.

My students are so creative, and having the necessary supplies helps encourage that creativity and allows them to apply it to their learning.

We use all of these materials almost every day for various purposes.

As many of my students have fine motor difficulties, the Twistable crayons and triangular crayons are particularly helpful, as they are easier to use. The construction paper allows us to do projects that help us to create visuals and better engage with the curriculum. The glue is especially helpful for cut and paste activities, which we do a lot of, as they help even the playing field between my writers and my non-writers.
