My Students

I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn.

My Project

My sweet first graders are super hungry and thirsty after running and playing at recess. We eat an early lunch so students are super hungry by mid afternoon. Having Goldfish, Veggie Straws, fruit snacks, Cheezits, cereal, Capri Suns and water available for my students, will allow them to be able to focus on academics and not get distracted by their stomachs growling from hunger. A variety of choices will also help my students because all of them have different tastes.

I want to make sure they are getting what is needed.

Not just school supplies, but supplies that will keep them focused on their learning until the time to eat a sustaining meal. We also need some ink for our class printer, labels, notecards for flash cards, Command strips and a large classroom clock.
