School News Service Group Needs Speaker

My students need a powered speaker to be able to produce quality broadcast news shows for the school.

My Students

Our school News Service Group is a group of 50 highly energetic and eager students who are interested in broadcast journalism. Our students are learning real-world skills as they learn the various roles of reporter, sound, camera, producer, journalist, editor, and more.

Our News Club students are in grades 4-6 at a public elementary school in Honolulu.

We proudly serve an approximately 25% military population. Our students are very eager to learn the real-world skills of broadcast journalism. These skills will help our students to become college and career ready as they explore the field of broadcast news. Our school is an elementary school situated in a quiet neighborhood in Honolulu. Some of our students are highly disadvantaged (20% poverty rate). Our students are polite, hard working, eager to learn, enthusiastic, have bounds of energy, and have great potential to change our world through their many talents. We hope that our students will learn and develop skills to make them successful in school and in life. Skills such as perseverance to task, writing, reporting, interviewing, team work, public speaking, poise, control of mannerisms, computer editing, responsibility, being a self-directed learner, and internal motivation are fostered.

My Project

This is the first year we are starting up the student news club. We are at the beginning stages of putting together equipment, set, and other necessities related to producing a show. We need a powered speaker to be able to add music to live broadcasts, hear and edit shows in production, play back video feeds so that the entire class of 50 students can hear it, be able to play back video footage filmed for the entire class for input in editing, to use as amplification for speakers and announcers given the large size of the class, and to make every aspect of the news production audible. Our students have just produced our first broadcast. Unfortunately, when we play back the video for the class, the sound is not able to be amplified for the whole class to hear. We would like to produce quality broadcasts, and a powered speaker will help our students to be able to communicate, edit, project, play background music for the broadcasts, amplify the audio for the reporters, and more.

Donations to our news service group students will change the lives of our students for the better by allowing the large class to produce quality live broadcasts inputting background music, amplifying the voices of the reporters, and to be able to play back broadcasts for review by the entire group of students.

Students will learn to produce quality programs and will learn real-life skills that will some day help them in their careers and prepare them for success in life.
