This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are primarily Hispanic and African American and come from a community called Little Village in Chicago. We are a pre-K to Grade 3 school. Our student population is around 500-550 students in total. Our school works hard to provide students with the best learning environment, teachers and academics.
My students are passionate about reading and they love to read all kinds of books!
But most of all, they amaze me because they never complain that I do not often have new books in the library. Instead of complaining, they keep on reading!
My Project
These books will increase and diversify the collection in the school library. The library is the heart of the school where all student visit weekly to engage in the love of reading! My school library works to help every member of the school community. Students look forward to checking out books for their reading pleasure or to support their learning in the classroom. These books will help increase the amount and variety of books in our collection. Every year many books get damaged or lost and need to be replaced.
These books will give students more variety when selecting a book to read.
I have carefully chosen books to meet the students reading interests. Every week when students visit the library they engage in a read-aloud and a short lesson that is tied to the book. Students also check out books every week. These books not only will help them foster a love for reading, it will also help them boost their reading power. With these new books, my students will have an extensive selection of books to pique their interest. These books will also help our readers become more eager and exited to read.
