My Project
I see kids each day who are extremely eager to interact with adults, share about their lives and interests, and connect in authentic ways. Kids come to my classroom before and after school every day wanting to chat, play games, have snacks, and generally just have quality time. They truly need trusted adults and they are actively seeking us out. One of my main tenants as an English teacher is to build relationships with kids so that we have a sense of familiarity and trust in everything we do throughout the year. My classroom will be enhanced by this project's items because they will provide me with resources that kids enjoy and that will allow us to connect in authentic ways. I believe that educators need to meet kids where they are post-pandemic; kids need to engage and connect with other humans and find common ground through games and play. When kids are connected and engaged, they feel ownership and belonging in the classroom. I intend to set up a game station with the board games, the physical games, and the Switch that kids can access during my homeroom, during before and after school hours, as well as during after school club time. Kids love to have incentive and ownership in their learning environments and this will definitely allow them to have that. I also included some books on my list to help kids see themselves in literature or escape to amazing worlds that spark imagination. Finally, I've included some tech tools that will allow me to teach with more freedom and ease in the classroom. I am so excited to provide these amazing new resources for my kids and I truly believe that my students will reap so many benefits as learners and humans!
