I am a second year, first time third-grade teacher in a Title I elementary school where 77% of students receive a free or reduced fee lunch. My students come from a background that does not allow them to see doors open as often as others. I can empathize with them on many levels.
This class has something rare.
They love to learn are are eager to work. However, it's hard to help them without the right tools. Our library is currently not fulfilling the needs of my students. We need leveled and engaging material.
My students are the most loving bunch of human beings. Many of them will give me their last fruit of snack to show their appreciation.
My Project
Our school recently purchased a wonderful program, called MyOn, which allows students to gain access to thousands of published books. However, we do not have the devices to read on.
I am asking for four Fire tablets which will help my students read, by giving them access to books.
With these Fires, we will now be able to read beyond our wildest imagination. The program allows students to read books over many genres and review them! It also allows students to show comprehension of each book after reading.
Best of all, for me as a teacher, I have access to all that students are doing in the program. I can create fun and intriguing projects. I can see the time they spend reading. I can work with them even from home.
