School Garden Project

Help me give my students starter trays, seeds, and other related items for the gift of gardening and to create a love for natural foods.

My Project

Our garden coordinator/teacher understands and is committed to our school garden at KES. Our mission is to show that gardening promotes education, healthy eating, and fun. We know that our school gardens will help children learn. Gardens are peaceful, healing spaces that can moderate a student's mood and also eases anxiety due to the therapeutic space and being out in nature. Students can also reflect on life while working in a garden. Gardens teach students about birth, growth, maturity, death/decompose, to name a few.

The Hydro-Tube Gardening Kit shows students the fascinating world of hydroponics, while the seed starter tray puts the student in charge to show their skills to manage the life of a plant.

How will the project impact our school or classroom garden? We plan to reduce food waste; we have a composting system in place and will be expanding to include certain school-generated waste. We plan to promote a dig-day and we also plan to form a student-led Garden Committee. Our hands-on, outdoor classroom gets the students' hands dirty; however, it connects the student with nature. Our garden is designed for one class to visit at a time to have good contact with each student. Our garden will connect students with nature, nascent foods, and each other.
