This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help me give my students the ability to have everything they deserve! I am the school counselor at a diverse, low-income, Title I elementary school located in Philadelphia, where all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. As the school counselor, there is nothing I love more than seeing their smiles every morning and the hugs when they come in after a long weekend to a safe place. The pandemic has been a very difficult time for my students and their families; however, we are eager to start the 21-22 school year!

All of my students are hardworking, intelligent, creative young learners, however, most of them have not been in a school building since March 2020 due to Covid-19.

My Project

Many of my students struggle to learn in a class all day and would benefit from a safe and calm environment to breathe, relax and recharge before preparing for the rest of their school day. Many of the items on my list, including the bean bags, rugs, sensory seat cushions, and more, will allow students to regulate their emotions in a safe way.

Students will be able to not only regulate in a safe way, but they will also be able to learn which relaxation techniques work best for them.

Many of my students have not had the opportunity to practice relaxation techniques, so I would love to give them that opportunity.
