Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I school in Los Angeles, CA. My fourth graders are vibrant, funny, intelligent students. They are passionate about exploring the world around them and have aspirations to graduate from high school and go on to four-year colleges and universities.

My school, along with the rest of LAUSD, has recently announced that we will continue to distance learn in the fall.

My goal is to make sure that my students have everything they need to have to have a successful first semester of fourth grade, despite learning at home.

These learners are unique in their learning styles and preferences. I try to teach them concepts in multiple ways to best access their learning potential! This includes incorporating movement and art into everyday lessons.

My Project

This school year is a challenging time as we continue distance learning. One way that I can help my students during this time is by providing them with interesting, yet rigorous reading material. I have experience using Scholastic Storyworks in previous years, and know that it is extremely engaging for fourth graders.

With the upcoming election, I especially want relevant and age-appropriate reading material that covers current events.

Scholastic Storyworks is both fiction and nonfiction and will cover the lead up to the election this November. I hope to foster important discussions regarding this important time in history even while we are distance learning.

Besides current events, Storyworks is colorful and engaging. I know fourth graders will love reading this exciting new material.
