Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th ICT grade classroom is filled with diverse personalities and creative minds. They love to read, show off their math skills, become scientists in their classroom, and participate in hands-on activities. They each have admitted that there is at least one subject area they want to improve on.
My students are super stars.
We have a Hollywood theme this year and every day they walk in, their classroom reminds them of that fact. When "on set" they set themselves up to succeed in all areas. We work on building each other up in our classroom community.
I feel blessed to be working at a school in the South Bronx, because I am constantly reminded of the reality of education in low-income areas, and the precious, young minds who dwell there. My co-teacher and I remind our students often about the importance of kindness, respect, and education. We remind them that despite the negativity that may circulate their very own neighborhood, they can become successful and do not have to become what they are used to seeing, but in fact, they can become who they dream to be.
My Project
A "Super Science" Scholastic subscription would be such a phenomenal resource in the lives of our budding scientists. Our goal for Science is to ensure that our students feel like scientists, as they learn this subject in a hands-on way. An additional goal is for our students to take this learning home with them.
I want my 4th graders to engage with the Science content in more ways than one, and with a magazine at their fingertips, this can be possible!
With a donation to this project, our students can continue to learn how to think like scientists with all of the science features and news that Scholastic "Super Science" highlights. It will also be an opportunity for them to discuss what they have read with their peers, and build their reading skills. I am excited for what this magazine subscription could mean for my classroom, and for my 4th grade scientists as well!
