My students need 30 Scholastic News magazines, a great way for students to read magazines that are on level and educational.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Makely's classroom raised $212
This project is fully funded
My Students
Not all my students have reading materials at home. The Scholastic magazines can be taken home after classroom use so they have access to reading material on their level at home.
My students attend a Title I public charter school where most are on free and reduced price lunch.
Class sizes are large (28 per class) with a wide range of levels, cultures and life experiences. This has both its pros and cons. The students are exposed to diversity and learn about several different cultures and places around the world. BUT, the large class sizes makes one-on-one and small group activities very difficult.
My Project
Scholastic News provides students with current events, reading and writing strategies, and fun learning activities at their level. We teach students to read, read, read and provide books. I want my students to experience different types of literature and their benefits. The weekly news will also provide students with reading material at home that not all my students have the benefit of having.
This project is important to both my students and myself.
My students will gain knowledge, exposure, and have access to reading materials on their level at home. I will get the pleasure of watch my students learn and grow into second graders!
More than half of students from low‑income households
