My kindergarten classroom is bright and colorful. I have lots of room for reading and creating. I feel that early learners need crayons, manipulatives, and lots of books to read. We learn to care about one another while learning that we are part of a huge and exciting world.
My K-5th grade title 1 public school is in a rural area located a few miles from the beautiful coast of North Carolina.
We serve many English as a Second Language students. As in most rural communities, jobs are scarce and money is tight. With statewide district cuts, we must make the most of our supplies.
My kindergarten students are very aware of their coastal surroundings, and know they must work towards keeping their community environmentally clean for the abundant wildlife and natural resources. My students appreciate beauty in nature, and are always creating this natural beauty in their assignments and projects. They learn best when they can apply their creative skills to all aspects of their learning. I try and give my students all the tools they need to learn about the world around them. First, they must learn to love themselves and eventually find their place in this world.
My Project
My kindergarten students love their surroundings and nature. I want them to love books and reading just as much. With the "Let's Find Out" magazines my students will read about science and social studies with simple, predicable nonfiction articles. The magazine directs students to online videos, text-to-talk audio, and print activities that go along with the articles in the magazine. My students will have their very own copy of the magazine to read in class either independently, or with their buddy readers. They can then take this magazine home to share with their parents and siblings.
Many of the articles follow along with our reading, social studies and science topics that we are studying in class. Other articles offer current events and photographs that supplement our studies. My students will be thrilled to have this amazing magazine delivered to our classroom each month.
My students would absolutely love to have a subscription to "Let's Find Out."
You will be giving them a gift that will empower their minds to grow and reach further than ever before, by reading current nonfiction text that is about the world they live in.
This magazine has articles on state of the art developments in the science and technology field, that is all geared towards their grade level. Please help make amazing opportunity possible for my students.
