Help me give my students the opportunity to build their reading comprehension levels through reading and discussing high-interest, grade-level texts.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Black's classroom raised $302

My Project
Scholastic News is a great way to practice reading comprehension as a whole class, especially during moments of the day when students have more energy and a desire to discuss ideas with each other. While I am using the district-provided curriculum, I find it to be a bit above many of my students' reading levels. Additionally, the texts tend to take more time to work through and sometimes involve outdated topics. I am a strong believer that one of the best ways to get students excited and engaged in their learning is to include what is culturally relevant and interesting to them. Scholastic News excels in this area.
This will be a fun Friday treat!
Students will practice reading the articles independently and as a whole class. Using Scholastic News, students will practice academic discourse strategies with my support. There are typically four articles in each monthly magazine, so I will be able to use one article every Friday to make learning fun and exciting for my students!
