Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hardworking, curious children who love to learn and develop new skills. They live and attend school in an urban neighborhood with a high poverty rate. The students in my classroom are English Language Learners and their families speak Spanish.
My fourth grade students enjoy reading, math, creating projects, researching a variety of topics and working with technology!
They are motivated and love working both independently and in groups. They love coming to school and are full of enthusiasm!
My Project
My students love reading colorful magazines about interesting topics. Scholastic magazines are wonderful for sparking interest and engaging readers. Even students who are reluctant readers are excited to read SuperScience magazines and Storyworks. We would like to read articles together as a class, in small groups, and also with partners. The children love reading magazines with partners, and enjoy having their own magazine to take home once we have read them in class.
The charts, graphics and beautiful photographs engage all students, and the visuals are especially helpful for the English Language Learners and struggling readers.
When the children read Scholastic magazines, they are improving literacy skills and learning about Science in a way that is meaningful and fun. They love reading magazines together and are excited to take the magazines home to show their families. This project would really help my students improve their skills and enjoy reading!
