This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The love of reading is priceless! The sooner I get my first graders reading, the more successful they will be in their school years. I find that although the books in my class library are interesting to read, they are not as enjoyable to the kids as the scholastic magazine that they get to keep.

My students are six-year-old kids that are just learning to read.

They live in Canoga Park and are from great families. Some of my students are English learners and some may have special disabilities. The truth about my students is that they are all at that stage of reading where they need to be stimulated and encouraged to read many different form of literature.

My Project

My students will receive the scholastic magazines on a weekly basis. We will vary the way we use the magazines. We will read them as a whole class at first. They may work on them together in small groups. I will support my students in learning about new topics that are not in my regular program. Each child will take their scholastic magazine home. There, they may choose to reread their magazines and share them with their families.

This donation will make a difference because my students' families cannot afford buying the subscription of the scholastic magazine.

I would hope that each student, no matter what their families hardship, would have a magazine subscription to call their own.
