Scholastic Magazines for First Grade Readers

My students need a Scholastic News magazine subscription to bring in more non-fiction texts to our classroom in a fun, kid-friendly format.

My Students

We are in a Title One school in a low income school district. Most students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our community is very culturally diverse and students come to school with a wide variety of experiences and abilities. Many students are English Language Learners.

My class is made up of fantastic first graders who love learning and working together as readers, writers, and mathematicians.

Our school mascot is the Tiger. We "Roar with Pride" for all the new things we learn each day and how we are able to show that we are experts at many, many things.

My Project

My first grade readers would enjoy and benefit from having a subscription to a Scholastic Magazine. The magazines provide fun non-fiction information at appropriate text levels for budding readers.

First grade is an amazing year for being a reader!

Students are learning how to read words and decode, but also learn how to question, analyze, and understand the words they are reading.

The Scholastic Magazines have always been a treasured piece of text in my classroom. The magazine format is different then a regular book and provides a "novelty" aspect to the whole reading experience. Young readers need to be kept engaged and the Scholastic Magazines provide that reading excitement by their format, color photographs, and appropriate text levels.
