This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars started a journey into a new program at our middle school as the first group of the Medical and Health Careers magnet. Eighty-nine percent of the student population is Latino/Hispanic with one hundred percent participating in free or reduced price lunch program.
Our program is meeting the needs of the diverse learner and encouraging students of color to view representation within disciplines such as legal, medical, or entrepreneurial.
Our school is a college going and preparedness culture and invites our scholars to visit museums and colleges.
My Project
Scholars have returned to the building and while it is great to have students back in person, they are not a stranger to pain and loss experienced during the pandemic. Over ten percent have lost loved ones and/or have been heavily impacted by COVID. I want to help them and their families to have less to worry about. The school uniform policy is in place and students look scholarly wearing their uniforms. As a large school site, we know our students can safely return to school and learn without the worries of being bullied for clothing choices and brands. Many of our most impacted students will not ask for help and that is why this project will give them a chance to have a set to wear during the school day.
