Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are predominately English-language learners who come from low socio-economic backgrounds. It is critical that I check their understanding throughout the day in order to know if I need to reteach or which individuals need additional help. White boards are an essential tool in my class.

Most of my students are English-language learners.

My school is a Title One School where most of the children come from low socio-economic homes. We have the class motto of Ohana, which means family. We believe that "no one is left behind and no one is forgotten". When students struggle, I immediately reteach or ask their partners to help them. Everyone pulls together in order to help the person next to them.

My Project

My students use EXPO pens throughout the day. I clearly use them for teaching; however, my students also use them to teach one another. They use white boards to make presentations and to collaboratively work on math problems. In addition, they use miniature white boards so that I may check their understanding throughout the day.

The ability to immediately check for understanding is critical to ensure that each child is served.

When I see that children struggle, I can immediately reteach the whole group, reteach a small group, or work with one child. White boards enable me to keep each child's frustration level low because I can immediately meet their needs. This simple tool ensures that each child feels successful throughout the day.
