it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Grumble .. Grumble .. " Imagine trying to concentrate, and that is all you hear. Your belly grumbling with hunger! That is how many of my second and third graders feel all day long.
My wonderful, second grade students are in a self-contained, special education program in a Title I school.
My students work hard every day towards achieving the same academic goals as their general education peers. The disabilities of the students in my class include autism, speech and language impairments, and learning disabilities.
My Project
My students have a "working-snack" where we continue to do our work they but also take a break and have a snack. My children have a very early lunch, on an long day, so snack time is very important to keep us fueled throughout the day. Mostly, all of my children come from low income homes, and all of my children receive free lunch. Many of my children do not bring in a snack from home. As a special educator, it is so important that I help my students in all the ways that I can. I am requesting these snack items so that our learning can continue to flow in our very long days.
Imagine how hard it is to focus when you're hungry.
Imagine how much harder it is to focus when you have a disability. Providing my children with a snack will take away some of their anxieties.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
