My Project
Our girls are our future. That’s what I believe. Nurturing strong young women, and helping them grow into innovative thinkers ready to change the world is a dire step towards an inclusive and beautiful future. My students are all young black girls with eyes full of dreams and aspirations bigger than their current circumstances. Girls who want to change the world, learn, grow, evolve despite not having the same tools to succeed like other young girls in America. These girls are used to the bare minimum, but I want to instill the idea that they also deserve more. That they always deserve the best. Having binders and folders so they can stay organized. An abundance of pencils, so they don’t have to worry how they’re going to complete assignments. This is a social studies class, and in a sense, we are teaching young girls that their history, not even their present, is predestined. They control the outcome of their fate, and can work towards any life they picture in their wildest dreams.
