Scanning to STEMulate Learning

My Students

Students need a wide variety of opportunities to experience new and different types of technology. Our school has great students that are eager to learn but are limited in their opportunities to experience new and exciting ways to use technology. Many of our students come from low to middle class income families which may hinder the chance to use technology outside of school.

Our students love hands-on type activities and being able to use the technology themselves will help them understand and learn concepts better.

I look forward to helping our students grow as new-age individuals; and confidence in their use of technology.

My Project

Scanning to "STEM"ulate learning is a project that I would like to have funded to help my students experience technology in new and different ways.

This year in my library, I will be providing students with the opportunity to learn and read through a learning commons area in the library.

This area will be a type of MakerSpace where students will be able to have a DIY (Do It Yourself) learning experience. Students will be allowed to visit the library and participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities. The activities will range from reading and listening to eBooks to solving math and science problems with QR codes.

The Amazon Fire devices will allow the students to have hands-on experience with the applications (apps) that will give them access to electronic books and a QR code scanner. Students will use the Amazon Fire to read or listen to eBooks and then use what they have learned to complete activities using the QR codes that can be scanned using the tablet.

The opportunity to use technology in a new and different way will help students feel more confident and excited about learning.
