My Project

As the school year winds down, my 7th-grade students are gearing up for an exciting challenge—designing their own Mars Colony! This project isn’t just about space exploration; it’s a hands-on experience that brings together everything they’ve learned in Math, Science, English, and History. Working in teams, students must develop a plan for survival on Mars and create a compelling business proposal to attract investors to their colony.

This interdisciplinary project is a powerful way for students to apply their knowledge, collaborate, think creatively, and develop real-world problem-solving skills.

A major highlight of the project is building a scale model of their colony—a task that requires plenty of paint, brushes, and art supplies.

As a first-year teacher in Oakland, I’m starting from scratch when it comes to classroom materials. I want to end the year by giving my students a memorable, hands-on experience, but I need help making it happen. Any support in providing art supplies will go a long way in bringing their visions to life and ensuring they finish the year with a project they can be proud of!
