My 7th grade students here at NH and Intermediate need to be encouraged to try their best and complete the state test in math and English. Currently, there are 15% of my students who have met or exceeded on the state test. As a school we are considered a CSI/MRI, which means we need to show improvement in test scores.
By offering small treats after each day of testing and for improvements in scores, this will encourage them to keep working through problems they feel are difficult.
Many of them lose stamina and end up not trying their best. A motivating factor for students is a simple reward of food/snacks. After testing, if students are able to make improvements on their scores, I would like to offer another treat depending on how much they have improved. Most students, if they feel better about testing then they do better. The treats will help give students a better attitude towards testing.
