Say It With Sign: A Study of American Sign Language

My students need 7 American Sign Language reference books and resources (flash cards, games, and a DVD).

Afterschool, I teach American Sign Language to a group of eager and enthusiastic students in grades 3-7. During the school day, I teach a hands-on k-8 science lab, which I love. My school is an urban, multiracial, all inclusive environment that stresses discovering and improving ones strengths and weaknesses.

My students learn about ASL and deaf culture in my afterschool class. I would like to support their efforts by providing a variety of books and materials in class and for home practice.

I have selected a variety of materials to support my students signing. The majority of the books are sign language reference books; these books describe ASL sentence structure and vocabulary. In addition, I selected a few books that feature games students can play to reinforce their signing. I know my students would love access to more ASL books and games.

Your donation will allow my students greater access to American Sign Language books and games, and therefore help build their vocabulary and confidence. These students in turn teach their siblings and classmates. Learning a second language is an asset for any student, bridging the communication gap between people is priceless.
