My Students
I teach in an urban area. All my students receive free lunches. They often lack the basic needs that we take for granted. They come to school hungry and unprepared to learn. Their parents can not provide them with the basic tools they need to succeed in school. Many of my students, who are only 6 years old, have already attended two or three schools.
However, they come to school curious, wanting to learn and explore, in a place that is safe and caring.
I do this by creating an environment that fosters their natural love for learning, a place where they can feel secure and cared about.
My Project
We have a beautiful classroom carpet. We meet there everyday to hear stories and share ideas. We lay on it to read books and play games. It is the busiest place in the classroom. As a result it gets dirty and is full of germs.
I want my students to stay healthy so they can be at school every day to learn.
To accomplish this our carpet needs to be cleaned often. The school doesn't have the resources or money to do this. So we need a carpet cleaner so that our carpet is cleaned on a regular basis.
No more germ and a clean classroom means my students will come to school everyday healthy and ready to learn. And, my first graders will learn the importance of keeping your environment clean and germ free!
