Say Goodbye to Boring History Lessons

Help me give my students playdoh, colored pencils, and markers, to make my class an engaging, multifaceted, and interactive learning space. Headphones/adaptors will allow students to participate in music listening activities. All items will help deepen their learning.

My Project

I want my class to be an engaging, multifaceted, and fun experience for each and every one of my students. I teach US History and Sociology and with your help, my class can explore these subjects in an exciting and innovative way.

Help make history fun!

I would use the colored dry erase markers to allow my students the chance to mark up worksheets, maps, and more. I use file pockets where students can markup, then erase, on printouts. I use these whenever we learn about the location of events on the map. As they follow along with the lesson, students will use markers to draw on the pockets with the printout inside, giving them practice and familiarity with the content. Colored markers will make this type of activity more engaging.

Its no question history can be boring at times, so I plan to use other items such as colored pencils, markers, and playdoh, to elevate my lessons and find different ways for engaging students. One unit requires students to showcase their creativity by making a children's book based on historical events. Other lessons have students make posters, brochures, and other items that rely on colored pencils and markers. As for the playdoh, I use this item for hands on learning activities where students have to make a sculpture that represents a certain term. For example, the "Iron Curtain".

Finally, I will use headphones/adaptors to bring in music to my lessons. For my sociology class, we discuss how music is a major component of socialization. I can also use these items when exploring topics like culture and media. Using headphones and adaptors allows students to engage with the music personally. It also allows mobility which enables out-of-room learning. With these items, students can directly participate in a personalized way.
