I am so excited to once again be the teacher/advisor of our school's digital photography club. In this club, selected 4th and 5th-grade students will learn how to take and edit photographs. During our sessions, they will photograph landscapes, people, and objects in and around the school. They will then learn digital editing skills. The culmination of working with digital photography, and learning editing, cropping, color balance, and other skills will allow students to create beautiful photographs.
In the past, we have used school-issued iPads to take photographs.
I am interested in moving the students to actual digital cameras this year. The cameras I have selected are kid-friendly, lightweight, and come with the batteries, and a memory card is also included.
I believe the art of photography gets lost on a smart phone or tablet, as there are many distractions.
In addition, having students learn using the technology of an actual camera with a shutter and memory card will give them an entirely new skill set. Who knows? This could lead to a life-long hobby or even a career.
