My students need a digital camera and digital photo frame to capture their creativity and document their learning!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Knopf's classroom raised $419
This project is fully funded
I teach Kindergarten in a Title I school where 90% of students receive free/reduced price lunches. Most of my students have never attended preschool and my classroom is their first introduction to a school setting.
A lot of the learning that takes place in Kindergarten comes in the form of "play". I have been working hard to set up my centers so that each one offers the best possible learning experiences for my students. The problem is that my personal digital camera has stopped working after 6 years and now I have no way to record my students' achievements. I am asking for an HP digital camera and an HP digital photo frame that I can use exclusively for my students - taking pictures of their work throughout the year. It will also give my students a sense of pride to see themselves and their work on displayed on the digital photo frame.
Lately there has been a push towards making Kindergarten less about "play" and more about pencil and paper work. Its hard to justify having "play time" when there's no concrete product like a completed worksheet. With a digital camera I can document the learning that I see happening every day in my centers. When a little guy is sorting coins from our toy cash register I can snap a shot of that learning. When my students are creating ramps at the block center and experimenting with which shape block will travel the ramp fastest I can record that too! When one of my lowest achieving student suddenly starts calling out letters for the other students to write down on their dry erase boards at the writing center and leads them in an impromptu phonics lesson as she plays "teacher" you can bet that I will be recording it. Not only will I be able to show parents and administrators the value of center time and that students are learning as they play, I will be able to have it on display via the digital frame so that the students themselves can see that they are growing and learning every day.
Your help will ensure that I can capture each moment of learning in our classroom - even if its not on a worksheet. You will make it possible for my students to see that their learning is valued enough to be captured and displayed for all to see. And I will be able to justify "play time" much more easily!
