Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher in NJ. My school provides a wonderful, nurturing environment that beleives all children have the right to an equal education no matter what socioeconomic class they come from.
Young children like to see, first hand, the progress they make throughout the school year. One example is that, at the beginning of the year, each student makes a Time Capsule. In the Time Capsule, we place a photo and an "All About Me" work sheet. The last week of school we "dig up" our time capsule to see just how much we have grown and changed! Unfortunately, the district does not supply cameras.
I would love to receive a camera so I could take pictures of the students throughout the school year. Children feel special when they see themselves on a bulletin board or in a yearbook. They also feel a sense of pride and ownership in their learning. I will have my students make a Time Capsule as well as a small year book at the end of the year with memorable pictures.
With your generous help, my students will be motivated and empowered to take part in all class activities and learning. For some, these pictures may be the only school photos they have of themselves.
