Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved," Richard Rogers once said and I agree. I would like to get my students involve in improving the environment.

My students are a wonderful bunch that are eager to learn and put forth great effort in class with the materials we currently have.

I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners, which include primary grade levels. I work with students who have autism, students with specific learning disabilities, and speech-language impairments. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

My Project

I believe Legos will foster a love of creativity by providing opportunities for my students to have fun, being creative and using analytical thinking. These are some of the very same skills that are needed to tackle environmental concerns. I would like my students to use Legos mini figures, wheels, doors, windows, and a variety of Lego bricks to build their ideas of what more sustainable homes, workplaces, schools and means of transportation could look like. These hands-on opportunities will help them make a big Lego model to help illustrate a clean environment and then explain how the main economic regions and its residents affect it. This will start as a small project project that will expand to a larger project. My goal is to include a couple of other classes to join in on the fun.

Please help my students by contributing to a variety of Legos such as Lego mini figures, wheels, doors, windows and a variety of Lego bricks to help my students develop critical thinking skills.

These resources will help support my students by giving them access to STEM opportunities, empower them to make things, enhance their curiosity, and gain the creative confidence to bring their ideas to life while learning how to help our environment.
