Save our Planet by Saving Scraps

Help me give my students a large composting bin and countertop one to gain an appreciation for how they can do their part to help save our planet. Composting helps reduce what we send to landfills and reduces waste by composting food scraps.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Anglace's classroom raised $171

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The ability to lower the food waste that we produce at school will not only help the school but the environment. Discarded food is taken to landfills where it rots and emits methane, a greenhouse gas. We would 2 composter systems to compost the food that would normally be thrown away. We want to use the compost for growing plants. Students will be responsible for monitoring the compost container, filling it with the scraps, and moving the finished compost to the garden area. I would like to show my students an alternative to throwing things away.

My students love doing projects.

They are very much "hands-on" learners. They especially enjoy projects that give them life skills, projects that they can use in their own lives. They will be compositing and using the compost to grow plants. They will be able to do their part to save our planet by reducing food waste.
